Sensing The Spiritual Realm

I am a trained hypnotherapist and past life regressionist with a lifelong practice of meditation and spirit readings. When we run into problems with visualization it is usually because we are trying too hard and expecting too much. As others have already mentioned, most people do not visualize a larger than life, 3D, Technicolor, surround sound movie. Most of us don't even really see anything. We just sense or feel with a more subtle set of sensory tools that relate loosely to those we sense the material world with. Below is an experiment you can try to help you tune into these inner sensory tools, it is very simple and I have found that it can help you with your visualization.
Sit in a relaxed position, in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
Take a few deep breaths and focus on the feelings within your body, if there is any area that is uncomfortable or tense just allow it to relax, you may adjust your position to allow comfort in that area.
Close your eyes and begin remembering something that happened recently, it can be negative or positive but it must be recent and easy to remember.
As you begin to remember the incident notice what that remembering feels and looks like with your eyes closed and your body relaxed. How do the memories come to you? How does the information make itself known to your mind? Notice if you are "seeing" something or if the picture is just in your mind. How clear is it? Do you associate sounds with the memory? If so, how do you receive that information?  Do you experience tactile sensations or smells?  Notice how much more subtle this experience is as compared to the"real life" experience.Take some time to explore the memory with part of your attention on how this memory is sensed. Ask yourself as many questions as you can about the way you are experiencing this memory. When you are ready leave the memory and open your eyes. This will give you a very clear idea of what to expect when you visualize.
The way you sense inwardly will probably never change but with practice you will become more sensitive to the way you receive information and the sensations will appear stronger and more clear.

Simple Presence...
There are many different ways to look within.
The most simple one is to separate yourself from your thoughts and emotions by just sitting in a relaxed position, closing your eyes, breathing normaly and try to feel the life energy that animates your body. Every time a thought or emotion arises just watch it without holding on to it, allowing it to be there or leave, and return your attention to feeling the life energy of your body. It takes practice, but eventually you will notice differences in the way your life energy feels and as you focus your attention on these areas you can find yourself percieving a void within the energy field. When you are able to face your fear of this void and allow it to remain in your consciousness you will be well on your way to finding the nothingness from which all things emerge.

Presence Is...

Intense presence is a state of consciousness in which we are aware of what is happening right now and are not trying to resist what is. We are not attaching our sense of identity to thoughts or feelings, but rather are just observing them and allowing them to be what they are, neither pushing them away not clinging to them. We are not rushing to get to the next moment, nor trying to get back to a moment that we remember from the past, nor clinging to this moment. It is putting all of our attention on what is right here in this moment, allowing it and watching it. We are flowing with what is, seeing it clearly and unattached to what comes of it. Presence is complete acceptance of this moment and everything in it. Presence is complete awareness of your emotions and thoughts as just thoughts and feelings, a knowing that you are something more than these things, just like you are something more than your body or name. Presence is the only state of consciousness through which love, compassion, joy and peace can emerge into the world. Most people have had short glimpses of this state of consciousness in their lives, but do not know how to access it on an ongoing basis, they assume it was somehow attached to what they were doing at the time, who they were with, or instigated by a higher power. It is just a choice to be fully where and when you are, and not react but accept, and then act if necessary, out of clarity, love and stillness.

The Practice...
Let this be your practice, to go ever more deeply into what is. Never be satisfied by knowing only the surface of things, nothing is so shallow that we can not see it's deeper essence and thereby find it's value in being. Pass through the goodness or badness of a thing and seek to know it more deeply. Pass through it's lightness or darkness, its weight, its outer appearance and sink deep into the beingness that is there. Stand firm in the center of your own stillness and know the glory of all of creation. In this we know the subtle essence of what is eternal and the wondrous impermanence of the gross, flashy, obvious universe of our physical perceptions, together in one consciousness.

Grounding Meditation
(A variation of the tree of life.)
This is one I use all of the time, it seems long but once you do it a couple of times it can happen in a split second.
Find a comfortable position and sit in a relaxed manner...
With each breath imagine that you are breathing in Divine light  and it is filling your lungs...
With every exhale you are releasing any darkness, stress or imbalance...
The light within you becomes more intense and the darkness leaves along with all the impurities you have been carrying around...
The light follows the pathways of your circulatory system to reach every part of your body,
until every cell in your body is illuminated...
Focus more on feeling this light rather than visualizing it...
Spend a few moments just feeling this energy of Divine light flowing through every cell of your body...
The light  continues to build in intensity until it begins to escape out through the pores of your skin...
The Divine light energy builds up around your body until you are sitting in a bubble of light that extends out about three feet around your whole body, including underneath you...
Continue to breathe in the light  and feel it circulating around and through your body and the bubble around you...
Just allow yourself to get used to feeling this energy, take time to allow this to feel as real as possible...
The light again intensifies with every breath you take until you begin to allow it to flow down and out of your base chakra down through the furniture or floor straight down into the ground...
Follow the energy as it flows down deep into the earth, through the soil and the bedrock deeper and deeper until it comes to the molten center of the Earth...
There it disperses into the pure living energy of the mother and pure light energy  from the Earth begins to move up through the center of the column of light energy you are sending down...
This pure earth energy continues up through the bedrock and soil up through the floor and furniture into your body through your base chakra circulating through your whole body further illuminating it and the bubble of light around you...
Continue to breath in light energy circulate it and send it down to the earth's center ...
Continue to receive pure earth energy and circulate it through and around your body...
Feel it happening you don't have to picture it, just continue to feel it happening...
You have made a deep connection with the Earth as you continue to allow these energies to circulate...
you have extended your roots deep into the earth like a tree...
Trees also extend their branches high into the sky they are grounded both into the Earth and the heavens...
Begin imagining the light energy moving up and out of your body through your crown chakra at the top of your head...
The light energy continues up through the sky and clouds, through the upper and outer atmospheres of the Earth and out into space...
Deep in space the light energy is released to mingle with and be purified by the pure life energy of the universe...
Imagine pure life energy direct from the center of the universe moving down through he center of your column of light...
Back down through the outer and upper atmospheres, through the clouds and sky and down in through the top of your head where it circulates with the light and earth energies throughout your body and the bubble of light around it...
Imagine this whole process as a continual exchanging of energies with the Earth and the heavens, circulating the light of creation throughout your whole being and energizing you with pure life energy...
You are now consciously grounded to the Earth and the universe...
Throughout your day whenever you begin to feel disconnected or overly fatigued remember to consciously connect  with the Earth and the heavens in this way...
No matter where you are you can reconnect with this flow of energy with just a thought...

 

Allowing With A Grateful Heart...

What I've found is that any thought of desire or need or longing is a manifestation of our resistance to what is. Resistance to what is takes us out of our experience of connectedness with all that is and creates the illusion of separation and lack. It also removes us from fully experiencing what already is.The very thought or emotion of desiring or needing something that we do not already have drains our power away and focuses our awareness on not having these things. Most of the time when we do not have enough of something like money to pay the bills for example, we desire more money and forget to be grateful for the money that we already have. The focus of our awareness is on not having enough rather than the gratefulness of having enough to do what we can now with it. So much energy is wasted trying to manifest what is not that we forget where we are and all the blessings that are with us here and now. Gratitude is the most powerful prayer of manifestation as it confirms that we already have what we want and the Universe responds with more of the same. When you come to the point where you have found the center of your Being and are totally Present here and now all these concepts fall away and you just know and appreciate what is. You carry no thought for what is not, because what Already Is takes up all of your attention and nourishes you.
